Softworks Group and Philips Semiconductors Team to Provide Complete Connectivity Platform for Gateways and Multimedia Networked Appliances
Technology Leaders Combine to Provide OEMs Solution Offering Reduced Development Time and Fast Time-to-Market
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2002--
NetSilicon subsidiary the Softworks Group (NASDAQ: NSIL - news), the
leading provider of the highest quality embedded Internet and wide
area protocols, today announced that it is working with Philips
Semiconductors to provide the networking software for advanced
TriMedia programmable media processors. This working relationship
provides a complete networking platform for OEMs and developers of
multimedia/networked applications such as gateways, videophones,
streaming video and/or audio encoders, decoders and transcoders, and
networked appliances.
"By combining Softworks' robust networking software and Philips
Semiconductors' expertise with these advanced processors, OEMs can
rapidly build intelligence and connectivity into their electronic
products," said Dan Bastecki, director of engineering, the Softworks
Group. "And by using this total solution, design teams can reduce
product development time while saving valuable time-to-market."
"The FUSION TCP/IP stack is a proven solution on the TriMedia
ICs," says Jan Grotenbreg, marketing director, Philips Semiconductors,
of the Business Line Media Processors. "By providing Softworks' FUSION
TCP/IP stack we are delivering an excellent solution to integrate
network functionality into gateways, networked appliances, streaming

which has been ported to the TriMedia family of processors. Softworks'
core set of production-ready protocols, including its FUSION TCP/IP
stack, enables robust ethernet/Internet connectivity and
communications while allowing OEMs of networked products low cost of
ownership.
Designed for high-performance in code space-sensitive
applications, Softworks products feature:
- Industry standard sockets interfaces and libraries;
- Simple interface for device drivers;
- Run-time configuration for maximum flexibility;
- A complete line of integrated protocol products (SNMP, FTP,
DHCP, DNS, and others).
For added functionality, additional and advanced FUSION protocols
and applications are available, such as RIP/RIP2, OSPF, and NAT.
